Wine and Dine in 2009

Celebrate the New Year at GOLD’s January Winemaker’s Dinner

Tucson, AZ (1/5/09) – You don’t have to be a wine connoisseur to enjoy a night of contemporary cuisine and wine tasting at Westward Look Resort, you just need to have an appreciation of great food and wine. The January dinner, taking place on Thursday, January 15 in the newly unveiled GOLD restaurant, will feature Robert Hall Winery of Paso Robles, California, with special guest founder Robert Hall personally on hand to answer questions about the wine selections and pairings.

The January Winemaker’s Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 15 with a reception in Westward Look’s contemporary new dining concept, GOLD restaurant. Celebrity guests Jennie and Blake of 92.9 The Mountain’s morning show also add to the evening’s delight.

Robert Hall Winery is tucked into a hillside east of Paso Robles along California’s enchanting Central Coast, and has been one of Paso Robles Wine Country’s most successful wineries for years. After traveling to several winegrowing regions throughout the United States and France, Robert Hall and his wife Margaret settled in Paso Robles. Their goal has always been to produce an ultra-premium wine in this wine region known for its diverse terrain. The winery is home to the largest underground wine cavern on the Central Coast and produces wines ranging from chardonnay to rosé and syrah.

The January Winemaker’s Dinner will feature five distinct Robert Hall wines, each paired with an accompanying dish prepared by Executive Chef James Wallace.

The night’s hors d’oeuvres are a spoonfest trio of Artichoke Salad with Fried Capers, Cured Pork and Pecan Salad, and Lobster Sangria. The night will begin with a 2007 Rosé de Robles.

The first course introduces a 2006 Viognier with a Red Pepper and Grilled Corn Pourage, with charred tomato vinaigrette, crumbled feta and fresh garden basil. Vioginier is a white wine featuring honeysuckle, orange blossom and sweet spice aromas

For the second course, guests will savor Dungeness Crab and Avocado Salad with blood orange, baby mache and Chioga beets, paired with a 2007 Blanc de Robles. The Blanc de Robles is a lively blend of Grenache and Roussanne, along with the vineyard’s newest white Piquepol Blanc. Zesty green apple and nectarine flavors greet the senses, leading to a nicely balanced finish with a hint of honey.

The third course matches a tender Oven Roasted Rack of Lamb with saffron risotto and sundried cherry jus lie with a 2005 Robert Hall Merlot.

For dessert, delight in a Raspberry Mousse Bombe with Dark Chocolate, tumbled strawberries and swirled sauce. The dessert will be accompanied by a Robert Hall’s 2005 Vintage Port. The Vintage Port is a rare blend of four traditional Portuguese grapes – Touriga, Alvarelhão, Souzão and Tinta Cão that greet the palate with a burst of berry flavor.

Due to limited seating, reservations are required. The cost is $85 per person plus tax and gratuity. Please call GOLD at 520-917-2930 to make your reservation.
